Fire

From the beginning of this book, Fire is a careful, calculating character. She has to be in order to protect herself. I always appreciate a smart, thoughtful female character over a brash one. As the book progresses, and Fire comes of her shell, she slowly displays her heart and how she is loyal to those she cares about. One of the most interesting things about Fire is that she loves children, and spends as much time as she can with them because she has chosen to not have her own to put an end to the dangerous abilities she inherited from her father. Her tumultuous yet loving relationship with her father also makes her character incredibly singular and interesting in the female-led fantasy genre.
